HC Deb 11 December 1987 vol 124 c296W
Rev. Martin Smyth

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement about funding for the London Lighthouse project and hospices and community care facilities for AIDS patients.

Mr. Newton

For the financial year 1987–88, the Government have approved payments of £500,000 for capital and £100,000 revenue costs for London Lighthouse, £150,000 for capital and £50,000 revenue costs to the Mildmay Mission hospital and £88,000 for capital costs to the Newcastle community support centre. The Department is currently considering applications for further funding from London Lighthouse and the Mildmay Mission hospital. The Government attach great importance to the role that the voluntary sector has to play in collaborating with the statutory authorities in providing support including respite care for people with AIDS.
