To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the expenses and emoluments paid to each chair and every member of the residuary bodies for the five former metropolitan counties for the year 1986–87.

Information of salaries for the year 1986–87 is as follows:

Notes:

(i) As a result of increased time commitment to residuary body work the salaries of five members of Merseyside residuary body were doubled, during the period 1 February to 31 July 1986;

(ii) One member of West Yorkshire residuary body received a daily attendance allowance as an alternative to an annual salary. This was increased on 13 May 1986 from £16 to £16.70;

(iii) Remuneration is subject to abatement, if applicable, in respect of public sector pension received.

Information on the total expenses paid to chairmen and members is contained in the residuary body annual reports and accounts for 1986–87 which were laid before Parliament on 25 November.
