To ask the Attorney-General, pursuant to the answer to the hon. Member for Birmingham, Erdington (Mr. Corbett) 23 July,Official Report, column 291, how the Government have derived the figure of £3.5 million a year as the cost of implementing part II of the Family Law Reform Act 1987, and if he will give a breakdown of this figure.

The Attorney-General: The figure of £3.5 million is derived from the impact on the county courts and on the legal aid fund of the increased rights given to both unmarried parents by part 11 of the Act. The breakdown of costs is as follows:
