HC Deb 10 December 1987 vol 124 cc266-7W
26. Mr. Fatchett

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he has any plans to seek to extend the provisions of the Education Reform Bill to Northern Ireland.

36. Mr. Grocott

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what consultations he has had on the implications of the Education Reform Bill for policy on secondary and higher education in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Mawhinney

The provisions of the Education Reform Bill will not generally extend to Northern Ireland, apart from those relating to certain university matters. I shall be issuing a consultative paper early in the new year inviting comments on how best measures corresponding to those in the Bill can be implemented in Northern Ireland. Thereafter, separate Northern Ireland legislation will be brought forward.
