HC Deb 09 December 1987 vol 124 c195W
39. Mr. Cash

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many job vacancies are registered at Scottish jobcentres; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lang

The number of vacancies notified and remaining unfilled on 2 October 1987 in Scottish jobcentres was 25,446 (including 3,421 community programme vacancies). It is estimated that only around one third of all vacancies are notified to jobcentres.

The continuing upward trend in the level of unfilled vacancies is encouraging. The latest figures show an increase of 4,000 over the corresponding figure last year.
