28. Mr. Cartwright

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when he next plans to meet the United States Secretary for Defence to discuss the military implications of the summit meeting between President Reagan and General Secretary Gorbachev.

Mr. Younger

I am in regular contact with the United States Defence Secretary and last met him on 2 December, when we discussed a number of issues, including arms control and its military implications. If no earlier occasion arises, I hope to meet him next at the spring meeting of the nuclear planning group.
