To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many 14-year-olds leaving detention centres in 1983 were reconvicted within two years.

Information specific to 14-year-olds could be provided only at disproportionate cost. Estimates of reconvictions of detention centre trainees aged 14 to 16 who were discharged in 1983 were published in table 8.3 of "Prison Statistics England and Wales 1986" (Cm. 210), copies of which are in the Library.
