HC Deb 08 December 1987 vol 124 c132W
Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, pursuant to his answer to the hon. Member for Holborn and St. Pancras of 3 December, whether the practical tests on the Heathrow underground loop referred to involved staff wearing breathing equipment; and whether the tests included simulated smoke and other hazards.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The London fire brigade has informed us that two firefighters paced the distance wearing breathing apparatus in darkness using hand-held torches. Simulated smoke was not used, but account was taken in the test of its likely effect on progress.
