HC Deb 08 December 1987 vol 124 c139W
Mr. Gow

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services which health districts in England have a higher proportion of their population over the age of 65 years than Eastbourne; and which health districts have a lower resource allocation working party target position than Eastbourne.

Mrs. Currie

[holding answer 30 November 1987]: The Hastings and Worthing health districts both had a higher proportion of their population over the age of 65 than Eastbourne in 1986 (the latest available population estimate). The detailed figures are as follows:

Proportion of population over 65
Males per cent. Females per cent. Persons per cent.
England 12.6 18.2 15.4
Eastbourne 20.5 28.8 25.0
Worthing 21.2 31.3 26.7
Hastings 21.0 30.1 25.9

Regions use a variety of methods for calculating districts' resource allocation targets, and it is not therefore possible to draw comparisons between districts in different regions.
