HC Deb 04 December 1987 vol 123 c721W
Sir Peter Blaker

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he proposes to respond to the appeal by the Secretary-General of the United Nations in the context of the United Nations financial crisis.

Mr. Eggar

The United Kingdom has always paid its assessed contribution to the regular budget of the United Nations promptly and in full. We share the Secretary-General's concern that, by mid-November, as many as 93 member states had failed to meet their financial obligations. We have exceptionally agreed to advance $9 million against our assessed contribution for 1988.
