HC Deb 04 December 1987 vol 123 cc719-20W
Mr. Anderson

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what were the subjects discussed at the meeting in Johannesburg on 28 November between the Minister of State, the hon. Member for Wallasey (Mrs. Chalker), and Mr. Kobus Meiring, the South African Minister.

Mrs. Chalker

I took advantage of a transit stop in Johannesburg for a short talk with the South African Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Kobus Meiring. The conversation was mainly about Mozambique. I impressed on Mr. Meiring Her Majesty's Governments support for normalising relations between South Africa and Mozambique and desire to develop economic co-operation. I also made it clear that we wanted to see any problems between South Africa and other countries in the region solved by peaceful means.
