§ Mr. John CartwrightTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the historic buildings in the Woolwich area which are to be considered by his Department's historic military buildings committee, indicating when he expects decisions on their future to be announced.
§ Mr. FreemanThe historic military buildings committee will be visiting the Woolwich area in January and is expected to look at the following historic buildings:
- Royal Arsenal West
- Middle Gate House
- Royal Carriage Factory
- Shell Foundry Gate House
- Armstrong Gun Factory
- Grand Store Complex
- Academy Building
- Pedimental Building, New Laboratory Square
- Riverside Guard Houses
- Royal Brass Foundry
- Royal Laboratory Pavilions
- Dial Arch
- Main Guard House
- Verbruggen's House
- Woolwich Garrison
- Connaught Barracks
The future location of the main organisation occupying the site, the directorate general of quality assurance, is currently under review and until this is settled it is difficult to take decisions about the future of the historic buildings on the site.
