HC Deb 04 December 1987 vol 123 c747W
Mr. Wray

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the amount of funds allocated in 1986 and 1987 for the purposes of water fluoridation; and how much will be allocated in 1988 and 1989.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

There are currently no water fluoridation schemes in operation in Scotland and it has not been the practice in the past to allocate funds to health boards specifically for this purpose. In general therefore the position is that health boards should expect to meet the cost of any future fluoridation schemes from within their normal allocations, but in the light of what is said in the Governments White Paper "Promoting Better Health", I shall consider whether there is any scope for giving them further support.
