§ Mr. RentonA number of responses to our Green Paper "Radio: Choices and Opportunities" expressed concern about the withdrawal of BBC local radio services in general, even though the Green Paper made clear the Government's view that, while the BBC would have to judge the extent of its commitment to local radio alongside the other claims on its resources, there continued to be a case for the provision of public service sound broadcasting at local level by the BBC.
