HC Deb 02 December 1987 vol 123 c601W
Mr. Nellist

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment what form Her Majesty's Inspectorate type of inspections of YTS schemes will take; how many new staff will be involved; and what is his estimate of the average time between the inspections of placements.

Mr. Cope

The training standards advisory service has been set up to provide an independent assessment of the quality of training in YTS and to advise on how it could be improved.

The inspections undertaken by the TSAS take the form of a thorough survey of selected elements of the training programmes being delivered in YTS with emphasis on quality assurance. The service has 32 training standards inspectors engaged on YTS inspection, all of whom have a professional training background. The TSAS expects to visit every approved training organisation within a five-year period.
