HC Deb 02 December 1987 vol 123 cc607-8W
Mr. Hanley

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent his Department uses recycled paper or provides paper for recycling.

Mr. Rifkind

Scottish Office supplies of stationery are obtained from Her Majesty's Stationery Office, which works closely both with the industry and the Department of Trade and Industry in relation to possibilities for greater use of recycled paper. I understand that the general purpose paper which Her Majesty's Stationery Office supply may contain an element of recycled waste when purchased in accordance with the conditions and specifications of Her Majesty's Stationery Office contracts.

Envelopes and demand slips for internal use in the Scottish Office are made from recycled paper.

Certain categories of waste paper from the Scottish Office are uplifted by a contractor for recycling.
