HC Deb 02 December 1987 vol 123 cc579-80W
Mr. Bell

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will investigate the practicalities of establishing a register of vehicle companies to ensure that the transportation of goods and materials on the roads be handled only by those companies so registered.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

Anyone who wishes to use a goods vehicle with a gross weight of more than 3.5 tonnes must hold an operator's licence. These are issued by the independent licensing authorities who keep a record of operators within their traffic areas.
