Mr. Irving

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the regional medium and interim secure units in England and Wales and indicate how many people, broken down into those awaiting transfer from special hospitals and those from other sources, are awaiting transfer to each unit; and if he will give the figures, where possible, for the last three years, together with an indication of the current average waiting time for transfer into each unit.

The information held centrally regarding people awaiting transfer to permanent and declared interim secure units is in respect of special hospital patients only. Information is not available for the last three years, as historical data are not retained. The current position is provided in the table. Any question of the number of prisoners awaiting transfer to National Health Service secure units is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary and the provision of health service facilities in Wales is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
