HC Deb 02 December 1987 vol 123 c585W
Mr. Butler

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has any proposals to increase the public access to prisoners' works of art.

Mr. John Patten

There are no plans to alter the current arrangements for public access to prisoners' works of art. Prison governors already have discretion to allow inmates to enter works of art for public competition or exhibition and many local initiatives are taken in this area in addition to a national competition and exhibition of prisoners' art sponsored each year by the Koestler Trust. The next Koestler Trust exhibition is planned to take place at the royal festival hall between mid-September and mid-October 1988.
