§ Mr. CohenTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement as to how he assesses London Regional Transport need for support from the taxpayer, with particular reference to his Department's press release No. 541, following the Autumn Statement.
§ Mr. David MitchellGrant is provided to LRT to the extent to which it cannot cover its running costs and fund its investment needs from traffic income and other revenues. The Government fully support the need for a high level of investment by LRT to modernise and expand the system. As announced at the time of the Autumn Statement, LRT's investment next year will be increased by more than £50 million, to £365 million. LRT's requirement for external finance will however be reduced by more than £50 million to £221 million.
§ Mr. CohenTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give the level of subsidy to London Regional Transport per thousand passengers at constant 1987 prices for each year since 1979.
