§ Mr. BlairTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster how many cases of insider dealing in the last 12 months have been brought to the notice of the Department of Trade and Industry; how many of such cases have resulted in prosecutions; and how many of such prosecutions have resulted in convictions.
§ Mr. MaudeIn the last 12 months, 25 cases of possible insider dealing have been considered for investigation. None of these has yet resulted in a prosecution. However, two cases referred to my Department in November 1986 have resulted in prosecutions and convictions, and two more cases referred in 1986 are now the subject of criminal proceedings. Ten cases are currently being investigated under section 177 of the Financial Services Act 1986. A further 11 cases are currently being considered for investigation.
