HC Deb 02 December 1987 vol 123 c627W
74. Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how much Government funding has been contributed to the derelict land grant in each of the last three years; and how much vacant or derelict land in public ownership has been sold as a result.

Mr. Trippier

The resources provided for derelict land grant in the last three years have been as follows:

£ million
1984–85 75.03
1985–86 82.78
1986–87 83.13

In these three years a total of nearly 3,500 hectares of derelict land has been reclaimed with the aid of derelict land grant. Figures are not available to show the amount of land in public ownership which has been sold following grant-aided reclamation. However a total of 27,000 acres of land was removed from the registers of unused land and underused land owned by public bodies in the period January 1985 to October 1987 because the land had been sold. It is not known how much, if any, of this land had previously been derelict, and reclaimed using derelict land grant.
