To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he expects to publish a detailed statement on proposals for the diversification of crops in the agricultural industry.

[holding answer 1 December 1987]: We intend to publish very shortly a detailed consultation document relating to the Community scheme for extensification of production, and suggesting ways in which that might be given effect in the United Kingdom, for both cereals and beef.

I shall be inviting views of all interested parties on this document.

current levels of import levy on the food products covered by the common agricultural policy; what were the comparable levels at the same date in each of the previous five years, on the same basis as the information provided in his written reply to the hon. Member for Southend, East on 12 January, Official Report, column 44; and if he will make a statement.
