To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) how many grants have been made under the broadleaved woodland grant scheme, since its inception, by county, in England and Wales;

(2) what is the average value of grants made so far under the broadleaved woodland grant scheme and the total value of such grants made for each county in England and Wales;

(3) what is the average and total area planted under the broadleaved woodland grant scheme for each county in England and Wales.

Information is readily available only for the period from the inception of the scheme (1 October 1985) to 31 March 1987 for Forestry Commission conservancies, follows:

This information relates to areas of planting (including rehabilitation and natural regeneration) in respect of which grants have been paid. During the same period, a total of 3,106 applications were approved for entry to the scheme in England and Wales, relating to a total area of 20,222 hectares, a considerable proportion of which remains to be planted under five-year plans of operation.
