HC Deb 01 December 1987 vol 123 c543W
Mr. Andrew Smith

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the value of the paper supplied by Her Majesty's Stationery Office to the Palace of Westminster; and what provision is made for recycling that part which accrues as waste.

Mr. Brooke

[holding answer 30 November 1987]: The value of paper supplied to the Palace of Westminster for the last complete financial year (1986–87) is assessed at £710,000. Unclassified waste is collected and pulped, without charge, by a contractor who covers his costs from the sale of the waste.

Mr. Hanley

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer to what extent his Department uses recycled paper or provides paper for recycling.

Mr. Brooke

Most paper is generally supplied through Her Majesty's Stationery Office whose contracts en-courage the use of recycled paper in manufacture. Waste paper other than classified waste is collected by a contractor for recycling.
