HC Deb 01 December 1987 vol 123 cc523-4W
22. Mr. Macdonald

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he has any plans to meet the University Grants Committee to discuss the funding of Scottish universities; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jackson

No. The Government fully support the University Grants Committee's more objective approach for allocating recurrent grant which applies the same criteria to all universities. The impact on individual universities has varied depending on their previous funding level and on their research record. Three of the eight Scottish universities received increases in basic grant for 1987–88 above the Great Britain average.
