HC Deb 01 December 1987 vol 123 c570W
Mr. Cryer

To ask the Lord Privy Seal if he will introduce legislation to make the bribery of a Member of Parliament a separately identifiable criminal offence, in line with the recommendation of the Salmond report on standards of conduct in public life; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wakeham

No, I believe the present remedies are sufficient. Bribery of a Member of Parliament not acting in his capacity as a Member would be caught by the criminal law. The House itself has remedies available to it in the event of bribery of a Member of Parliament acting as such.
