HC Deb 01 December 1987 vol 123 cc486-7W
Mr. Alan Williams

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what system of monitoring he employs to measure the number of jobs created by firms in receipt of regional selective assistance against the number of jobs projected by them at the time of application.

Mr. Peter Walker

Grants are paid in instalments related to the achievement of the projects' forecast objectives. Each claim for payment is required to include a report on all aspects of project progress, including job creation, certified by an independent accountant. In addition, projects are inspected by officals of my Department at appropriate intervals to verify the details.

Mr. Alan Williams

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what statistics have been collected on the proportion of jobs projected at the time of regional aid approval which actually resulted from(a) projects generally and (b) inward investment projects from overseas.

Mr. Peter Walker

Statistics collected on projects receiving regional aid include employment achievement against forecasts. For completed projects since 1979, the proportion of jobs achieved against forecast is(a) 87 per cent. for projects generally and (b) 85 per cent. for inward investment projects from overseas.
