HC Deb 01 December 1987 vol 123 c526W
29. Mrs. Ann Taylor

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what plans he has to provide additional resources to implement the recommendations of the Swann report on ethnic minorities in education; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dunn

In the financial year 1988–89, a further £1.4 million of expenditure will be supported under the education support grant programme for pilot projects related to educational needs in a multi-ethnic society. Training in the planning and delivery of the curriculum in a multi-ethnic society will continue to be a national priority area for school teachers under the local education authority training grants scheme. The scheme also includes a new national priority area for further education teachers. A total of £2 million of expenditure will be supported in 1988–89. Other programmes will continue to take account of the needs of ethnic minorities as identified in the Swann report.
