HC Deb 30 April 1987 vol 115 c231W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer to what he ascribes the difference between the 1986 Budget estimate and the latest estimate of the revenue from stamp dutis in 1986–87; and if he will break down the figures in table 6B.3 of the financial statement and Budget report 1987–88 to show where the latest estimate diverged from the original forecast and where the forecast for 1987–88 differs from the latest estimate for 1986–87.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The difference can be ascribed mainly to increased turnover and prices in the property and stock markets. The breakdown of the figures requested is as follows:

(£ million)
1986–87 1987–88
Budget 1Outturn Forecast
Land and buildings 605 710 875
Shares 590 850 890
Other duties 230 290 310
TOTAL (rounded) 1,430 1,850 2,100
1 Latest estimate.
