§ Mr. Hancockasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what contribution the Isle of Man makes to the Exchequer to cover the cost of services provided for it.
§ Mr. MacGregor[pursuant to his reply, 29 April 1987]: The Isle of Man makes an annual contribution towards the cost of defence and other common services provided by the United Kingdom Government which in 1985–86, the last 233W year for which figures are available, amounted to £1,004,166. The island also makes contributions in kind, notabley the provision of military training facilities and a bombing range for the RAF; and pays the full costs of 234W certain specific services for its residents, notably the provision of higher education and the accommodation of higher education and the accommodation of long term prisoner(currently 10 in number).
