Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what information he has as to what chemical substances, in what annual volumes, and by what methods of treatment, were processed by the Rechem plant in Bonnybridge, as to where those chemicals are now being treated, and by what processes; and what complaints have so far been received from residents of the areas in which the reprocessing plants dealing with these chemicals are situated.

The information requested is not held centrally. However, the hon. Member may care to note the following possible sources of information:

  1. (a) regarding substances processed at Bonnybridge—Rechem International and Falkirk district council.
  2. (b) where chemicals now being treated — the second report of the Hazardous Waste Inspectorate (a copy of which is in the Library) and local authorities identified in that report.
  3. (c) any complaints about current treatment — the relevant local authorities, and the Department of the Environment Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Pollution.
