HC Deb 23 April 1987 vol 114 c695W
35. Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what measures Her Majesty's Government are taking to encourage organic farming in Britain.

Mr. Donald Thompson

As described in "Farming UK" which was published by Agriculture Ministers on 10 March my Department is consulting the industry on the setting of production standards. In addition, the agricultural advisory services are equipping themselves to respond to demand for specialised advice from those producing organic food. Organic growers also benefit from the Department's overall research programme, which includes topics such as nitrogen fixation and biological control, as well as specific projects on organic farming.
