HC Deb 23 April 1987 vol 114 c683W
Mr. Chris Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if, in the light of the Zeebrugge disaster, he has any plans to review the regulations governing the carriage of hazardous or toxic wastes on passenger ferries.

Mr. Michael Spicer

The conditions under which dangerous goods may be carried at sea are contained in the Merchant Shipping (Dangerous Goods) Regulations 1981 as amended and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code. These conditions are subject to continual review both nationally and internationally and any lessons to be learnt from the Zeebrugge disaster will certainly be taken into account.
