HC Deb 22 April 1987 vol 114 c544W
Sir George Young

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what percentage of bids for minor work allocation in voluntary aided schools have been successful.

Mr. Dunn

The allocations made to local education authorities in 1987–88 for capital expenditure in their areas by the governors of voluntary aided and special agreement schools included in most cases an element for minor works costing less than £120,000. It is for individual authorities, in consultation with the voluntary bodies, to decide how to use this element.

Plans for minor works totalling £22.9 million were submitted by authorities. The total allocations for such works were £4.215 million which represents 18 per cent. of those plans.
