Member for Battersea (Mr. Dubs) on 10 February, at columns201–204. Figures for the rest of the United Kingdom are a matter for my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland, and my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Wales and Northern Ireland.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many (a) geriatric, (b) surgical and (c) specialist beds are available in the Bath district health authority in July of each year since 1979.

I am sorry I cannot give the hon. Member the information he seeks in precisely the form requested. The available information is given in the table. Between 1979 and 1985 the number of in-patient cases treated in Bath DHA increased by 14.1 per cent. from 43,048 to 49,135.

Melksham, Bradford on Avon and Malmesbury hospitals connected with the Bath district health authority's 1987–88 £1.3 million service development programme.

No decision has yet been taken by the health authority. If any of the proposals involve reduction or significant changes of use of hospital beds, the proposals would, of course, be subject to the usual formal consultation procedure.
