asked the Secretary of State for Energy what proportion of his Department's advertising and promotional budget is spent on regional and local newspaper advertising.

Mr. Peter Walker

During 1986–87 the Department of Energy spent £149,400 on regional and local press advertising, £137,000 on local radio and £310,000 on specialist trade and technical magazines.

In total these figures represent 10 per cent. of the Department's spend through the COI.
