HC Deb 09 April 1987 vol 114 c374W
Mr. Sheerman

asked the Paymaster General (1) what courses are available for attracting women science arid technology graduates who wish to re-enter (a) the labour market and (b) the teaching profession;

(2) what courses or classes are available under the umbrella of his Department for women who wish to reenter (a) the labour market and (b) the teaching profession.

Mr. Trippier

All Manpower Services Commission training schemes are open to women. In addition, the MSC runs a number of schemes under its wider opportunities training programme designed specifically to help women returning to the labour market. None of these courses cater specifically for science and technology graduates. The MSC also provides business for women to take an Open University course "Women into Technology", which is designed to help women enter or reenter industry as technicians. Training courses designed to help women re-enter the teaching profession are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science.
