asked the Secretary of State for Wales what percentage of infant and junior school pupils were taught Welsh in the latest year for which statistics are available.

In 1985, 59 per cent. of infant and 72 per cent. of junior pupils were taught Welsh, either as a first or second language.

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what percentage of each age group of secondary school pupils were taught Welsh in the latest year for which statistics are available.

The percentage of secondary school pupils in September 1985 who were taught Welsh was: Unit at Singleton hospital through the establishment of a new consultant post. When that information is to hand, the question of manpower approval will be remitted to the Welsh Medical and Dental Manpower Committee for consideration at its next scheduled meeting. The committee is next due to meet on 7 July.
