§ Mr. Donald ThompsonWe consider that this directive will impose unjustifiable costs on businesses, and retailers in particular, if adopted in its present form. For this reason the United Kingdom has repeatedly asked the EC Commission for a cost-benefit analysis of their proposals but none has been forthcoming to date. We will continue to seek modification to the proposals to make them more acceptable to the United Kingdom.
