HC Deb 09 April 1987 vol 114 cc408-9W
Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the revenue from National Health Service charges in each year until 1990; and adopting Government assumptions about inflation, what prescription charges will be in each year until 1990.

Mr. Newton

The information requested is:

£million
1987–88 1988–89 1989–90
Estimated NHS charge revenue (England) 487 520 550

It would be inappropriate to engage in speculative calculations about the level of prescription charges in future years, since there is no automatic presumption that they will be increased in line with general inflation, and no decisions about their future levels have been taken.
