§ Mr. Heathcoat-Amoryasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has yet had an opportunity to consider claims for compensation from applicants to the community radio experiment.
§ Mr. MellorWe have received 35 claims for compensation from the final total of 270 applicants to the scheme. We have also considered the case for making a modest ex gratia payment to each applicant, in view of the cancellation of the experiment. However, we have decided that such payments from public funds would not be justified, in particular since it was made clear that applicants should not incur the expense of elaborate applications.
