asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list in the Official Report the number of experiments on animals carried out in (a) Scotland and (b) the United Kingdom during the last three years which were of a non-medical nature.

However, information on the primary purpose of experiments on living animals in Great Britain started in the years 1983 to 1985, the latest year for which information is currently available, is given in table 15 of "Statistics of Experiments on Living Animals Great Britain, 1985" (Cmnd. 9839). Corresponding information for Scotland is given in the following table; corresponding information for Northern Ireland is not available.
