HL Deb 06 April 1987 vol 486 c891WA
Baroness David

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Nature Conservancy Council keeps the following information in respect of each of the sites of special scientific interest (SSSIs) it notifies:—

  1. (i) as complete a list as possible of all the plants and animals within the SSSI; and
  2. (ii) the location, population size and other relevant information in respect of any rare or unusual species for which the site may have been notified, and, if so, whether the information is available.

Lord Skelmersdale

The collection of such information is a prerequisite of SSSI notification since the Nature Conservancy Council is statutorily obliged to give owners and occupiers details of the species or physical features of special interest existing on each site.
