HC Deb 06 April 1987 vol 114 c4W
63. Mr. Soames

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the level of aid given by his Department to Nepal.

Mr. Chris Patten

As I informed my hon. Friend on 18 March, our aid disbursements to Nepal in 1986 are provisionally estimated at £9.9 million.

The level of aid reflects the close and friendly relations between our two countries. Our aid is devoted to basic infrastructure, health and education, and to rural development in the hill areas of Nepal, in support of the Nepalese Government's efforts to improve the living conditions of their people.
