§ 40. Mr. Mikardoasked the Secretary of State for Transport when he expects that his Inspectorate of Railways will report on the fitness for public traffic of the London docklands light railway; and if he will make a statement concerning the recent accident during trials on the Isle of Dogs.
§ Mr. David MitchellI refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Southwark and Bermondsey (Mr. Hughes) earlier today. The recent accident at Island Gardens stations on the Isle of Dogs has been thoroughly investigated by the companies who are building the railway under contract. The railway inspectorate has been closely involved in this investigation. The contractors will be issuing a statement after some further tests have been carried out. I have no reason to believe that the railway will not be ready to open for public use by the summer, as planned.
