§ Mr. StanleyBritain's NATO partners have welcomed the contribution made to the Alliance's forces by the British nuclear deterrent and have consistently supported our efforts to maintain its effectiveness. The most recent collective expression of this support was contained in the communiqué issued following the October 1986 meeting of the NATO Nuclear Planning Group, a copy of which is in the Library. Subsequently, at his meeting with the Prime Minister at Camp David in November 1986, President Reagan confirmed his full support for the arrangements made to modernise Britain's independent nuclear deterrent with Trident.
