HC Deb 02 April 1987 vol 113 c591W
33. Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis as to the level of reported crime in Newham in the light of the Newham crime survey carried out by the Harris Research Centre a copy of which has been forwarded to him; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that the total number of recorded crimes in Newham fell by 2.4 per cent. in 1986 compared with 1985, the number of arrests increased by 2.7 per cent., and the total number of crimes cleared up increased by 47.9 per cent. The Commissioner has not received a copy of the report of the Newham crime survey, which, I understand, is still unpublished.
