HC Deb 02 April 1987 vol 113 c559W
Mr. Prescott

asked the Paymaster General how many unemployed claimants aged under 25 years there were in each parliamentary constituency at the most recently available date.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I am sending the hon. Member the information requested which is also available from the Library. The information relates to the numbers of unemployed claimants aged under 25 years in each parliamentary constituency of the United Kingdom on 8 January 1987, the latest date for which an analysis of unemployment by age is available.

Mr. Wallace

asked the Paymaster General if he will make a statement on the steps he takes to ensure the accuracy of his Department's unemployment figures as a true indication of the number out of work.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I am satisfied that the monthly unemployment figures are an accurate measure of the number of people claiming benefits at unemployment benefit offices.
