HC Deb 02 April 1987 vol 113 cc600-2W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales which health authorities in Wales have started computerised schemes for cervical cancer screening and which intend to start such schemes by the end of 1987.

Mr. Mark Robinson

Clwyd and Powys health authorities have already started computerised call and recall systems for cervical cancer screening. East Dyfed (in conjunction with Pembrokeshire), Gwent, Gwnedd and Mid Glamorgan health authorities all intend to implement computerised call and recall systems by the end of this year. South Glamorgan already operates a computerised recall system and hopes to introduce a computerised call system in the Autumn. West Glamorgan health authority also operates a computerised recall system but does not expect to introduce a computerised call system until the beginning of 1988.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the average waiting time of women in the Clwyd health authority area who have had tests for cervical cancer to receive details of the test; and how the waiting time compares with the average waiting time for such results elsewhere in Wales.

Mr. Mark Robinson

The information requested is not yet available centrally. Welsh Office circular WHC(86)31 advised all health authorities that test results were to be notified at the most within eight weeks of the test being taken. The Department will shortly be issuing a further circular which, amongst other matters, will ask health authorities to indicate their performance against this target. I shall write to the hon. Gentleman when, later this year, this information is available.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how many operations have been performed on women suffering from cervical cancer in (a) the Clwyd health authority area and(b) Wales as a whole in each of the past five years;

(2) how many operations have been performed on women suffering from cancer of the breast in (a) the Clwyd health authority area and(b) Wales as a whole in each of the past five years;

Mr. Mark Robinson

The information requested is not readily available. I shall write to the hon. Gentleman as soon as possible and place a copy in the Library of the House.

Mr. Barry Jones
